It's now forbidden for merchants to throw away food

Tour de EiffelThis is an awesome move from the french government.
Supermarkets and other merchants are not allowed to throw away unsold food.
In order to stop the wasting, they now need to donate the food to charities.

It should be made Europe-wide. It's ridiculous how many food are thrown away every day, you won't believe it until you saw the mountains of groceries.
However, it's questionable if this keeps the french from throwing away food when eating. I could see it in many restaurants. They gave back plates half full of food, that was expensive and, as they said, very good. Don't ask me why. If this is a custom, it's a very bad one.
